Wind Integration Symposium
8-9 May 2012

Welcome to Frankfurt

The 2nd Wind Integration Symposium to be held in Frankfurt, Germany on 8-9 May 2012 is organized by the same team that successfully has been organizing the annual "International Workshop on Large-Scale Integration of Wind Power into Power Systems as well as on Transmission Networks for Offshore Wind Power Plants" for the last 11 years.

The International Workshop has become the premier conferences in its field, which provides an excellent platform for exchanging knowledge and ideas and sharing experiences around wind power integration into power systems. The International Workshop has now typically about 300 participants with around 80 presentations over two days, typically in 3 parallel sessions. Nevertheless, during the workshop the need for another platform emerged which should be more flexible to discuss selected topics without going to a lengthy academic paper submission and selection process. Hence, the idea for the Wind Integration Symposium was born..

The Wind Integration Symposium will concentrate on specific topics and relevant industry matters within a group of experts.

This year, the Wind Integration Symposium will focus on Integration of renewables - High penetration issues: Understanding and managing the changing power system dynamics with high level of Non Synchronous Generation. The program committee, which consists of representatives from TSOs and wind turbine manufactures, identified the topics which are currrently relevant for better evaluation of the impact of increasing wind penetration on power system operation. The presentations will come from TSOs and wind turbine manufactures and we expect a vivid discussion during the symposium.

The symposium program consists of the following sessions:

  • SESSION 1: Experiences and challenges for TSOs/DSOs associated with high penetration of renewables
  • SESSION 2: Analysis of associated challenges of high penetration
  • SESSION 3: Principle solutions to high penetration challenges
  • SESSION 4: Modelling challenges for investigation of high penetration challenges

The key principal ideas for the symposium are the following:

  • No call for papers, speakers will be invited by the program committee (The program committee contains a broad spectrum of industry experts).
  • Only two or three key topics will be discussed to be able to concentrate on relevant issues (topics will change from one symposium to the next)
  • No proceedings, hence power-point presentations are sufficient (might be published on the web page if authors agree);
  • Aiming at high quality presentations of persons who are deeply involved in the topics, no marketing presentations.
  • No parallel session, sufficient time for discussion and networking
